The Savegre Mountain Hotel, located in the midst of a beautiful cloud forest, is dedicated to luxurious and sustainable hotel service. Also known as the Cabinas Chacón, our hotel is an environment of warmth and tranquility, a place to let the tensions of modern life fade away and enjoy the splendor of untouched nature.

Located in San Gerardo de Dota, a small community in the Talamanca mountains, Savegre is at an elevation of 2200 meters (7220 feet). The forest around the hotel is one of massive oaks, colorful plants, and an incredible variety of animal life. There are numerous insects, mammals, and amphibians dwell in the forest, and our pristine valley is a paradise for birdwatchers: over 170 species of birds can be seen in this cloud forest (some of the most common are listed here), and the list is crowned by the magnificent quetzal, which lives here year round. In addition, our 35 km (22 miles) of hiking trails make our valley perfect for hikers.

The Savegre Mountain Hotel has the fourth level Certification in Sustainable Tourism (CST). We also are a recipient of the Ecological Blue Flag award and a member of the Costa Rican Network of Nature Reserves. Please learn about our efforts in conservation and sustainability here.

As you wind around Cerro de la Muerte on the Interamerican Highway, you will see the lush vegetation become stunted and then diminish. The turn off for San Gerardo de Dota is at Kilometer 80. After driving 9 kilometers down a well maintained gravel road, you reach this narrow valley brimming with life.

Don Efraín Chacón and his family arrived here in 1954 and were the first pioneers to settle in this valley. The Chacón family not only developed this wonderful hotel, which is still owned and run by the family, but have taken advantage of the crisp weather to grow apples, plums, and peaches, which are served in our restaurant.
