Sustainability and Conservation Efforts

Savegre has a strong commitment to the health of its surrounding environment. We strive to leave the cloud forest pristine and verdant so future generations of guests can enjoy the same beauty and diversity you will see upon visiting. In addition to our conservation efforts, including our private biological reserve of 400 hecatres (988 acres) of forest, we use sustainable products and methods whenever possible.

Savegre is a proud member of Costa Rica’s National Tourism Chamber (CANATUR) and Costa Rica’s National Ecotourism Chamber (CANAECO). The Hotel is registered with the Costa Rican Institute of Tourism (ICT). Our private nature reserve won the highest classification in Management of Protected Areas given by The Blue Flag Program and we are a member of the Costa Rican Network of Nature Reserves, a group of private conservationists. Hotel Savegre is certified by The Costa Rican National Accreditation Commission with the Certification in Sustainable Tourism Program at level 4. This program measures the compliance of tourism businesses to a "sustainable model natural, cultural, and social resource management."

During your stay at Savegre, you will notice many of our environmental efforts, both on a large scale and in things that seem almost insignificant. Linens are air-dryed, using the energy of the sun instead of using electricity to power a drier. We currently have solar powered water heaters in approximately 10% of our rooms, and are working on expanding this system. We encourage all our guests to recycle and reduce their water and energy consumption, and to this end have installed low-flow water fixtures and use natural illumination wherever possible.
